Back Pain
Wow, it's been 9 months now. Occupational therapy, Physical therapy and a neurophysiology evaluational.
The best part of this injury is my brain is in tact. I'm probably back as close to 100% than I can ever be. Memory is coming back, cognitive brain functions are working and most important I can speak full sentences again. After the fall and the brain treatment ended as it got better and I found I had further injuries to my back. I've been having back pain ever since the accident but I thought it was something that would go away since the trauma doctors told me nothing was wrong with my back or neck. I explained that my hands were shaking and my legs and feet were feeling numb and tingled all the time. My doctor asked if I ever had an MRI of my back since falling 20ft off my roof. That would be no. We also found out that they only took images of my head, cervical spine and leg, nothing on a full back. You can imagine my response when my doctor interpreted the MRI report and told me my spine was in the shape it is and I could not drive or go to work. (11) Herniated Discs (1) Veribrea Compression Fracture (1) Retristhesis Veribrea (Displacement of vertebral body) Now 9 months later working part-time and out all together I question my future with a company that I have been employed with for 17 years. Don't get me wrong, they have been extremely helpful and patient with my injuries. I have definitely received more than I have given in the past 9 months. Their patients with my health and well being has been above and beyond but I can only ask "how long before the pull the plug on me and how marketable will I be once I'm released" When I work I work 4 hour days and that in itself is a living hell. My back is on fire and my legs are cramped up. I feel like a 80 year old man in a 42 year old body that use to take things to the edge and then ask for more. Now I can't even feel useful for the company I've work for, for the past 17 years. What do you do when you pain is in your whole back? Cervical, Thoracic and Lumbar. People tell me to do sit ups and strengthen my lower back because it worked for them. That's fine if it's just the Lumbar. My Thoracic and Cervical kill me when I try to work the back. ![]() I've never been someone to sit back and watch someone else do something, I've always been the go to guy and now I'm reduced to a shell of the person I used to be. How long until you just say I give up? The next step for me is Cortisone injections and "Pain Management" or what my back doctor say is Narcotics during the day time. Who can function like that? I've already notice a huge difference in how much I'm drinking just to take off the edge. My wife and I bought a hot tub that reduces some off the discomfort for a while but does not eliminate it all together. The best part of my day is falling a sleep after taking the 4 prescription I'm on and the worst part is waking up when I can barely move. I have to ask what kind of quality of life is this for someone that was so active? My only saving grace to all this is that I'm not drooling and unable to take care of myself. I'm not a person that wants a thick file at my doctors office or rely on pain meds to barely make it through the day. I'm the guy that is the advocate for people less fortunate than myself. Now I feel that I am that person. How do you keep moving forward everyday knowing that tomorrow is just going to be another living hell? |

RE: Back Pain
If your low back pain has lasted longer than few months, you will probably benefit from more intensive treatment and with acute back pain, painkillers are usually the first method of treatment for chronic back pain. Sleeping with a pillow between the knees while lying on one side may increase comfort.

RE: Back Pain
This is great and I found this forum very useful. I also suggest yoga session daily. It's an exercise that can help us. Many back pain sufferers find yoga to be very effective in reducing their pain. Over time, yoga can increase your strength and flexibility, effectively counteracting the tightness and weak muscles that cause many types of back pain.

RE: Back Pain
Back Pain, especially in the lower back, is a problem that most people experience at some time in their lives.Sleeping with a pillow between the knees while lying on one side may increase comfort. Some doctors recommend lying on your back with a pillow under your knees. No specific back exercises were found that improved pain or increased functional ability in people with acute back pain.

RE: Back Pain
I am also facing same problem from last 2 months, I also used to sit 8.30 hours in my office chair. According to me i think that Back pain does not usually require immediate medical intervention. The vast majority of episodes of back pain are self-limiting and non-progressive.
