I know there's only two users on this forum at the time of posting, but the amount of views indicates a couple of lurkers, so I'll post my intro here, summarising my accident. I encourage others to join and do the same.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
I currently live in Canberra, which is the capital of Australia. I'm originally from Mallacoota which is a small coastal town (1000 people) in Victoria, a state which forms the south-east corner of Australia. That's a quick geography lesson Big Grin

In January of 2006 my brother, sister and myself caught a bus from Mallacoota to Canberra. I had three gigs that week (I'm a guitarist) and additionally university was commencing again soon (I study law).

We caught a bus to a railway station, and from there decided to catch a cab home. We were all very tired. I sat in the front passenger seat, brother and sister took the back. The taxi ride lasted around 15 seconds.

The taxi driver drove straight through a double-lane highway without checking for oncoming cars. We did though. I looked out my window to see a car racing straight to my door, then heard a crunch, and then blackness. I got my head off the dashboard, turned around to see my brother and sister in the car and told them to get out, which they did quickly. Later I was told this didn't happen.

In reality both the driver and I were knocked out after being t-boned, and the car continued to drive on, the taxi driver still with his foot on the accerator, the car continued off the road, down a short incline and became wedged between the bottom of an apartment building and the enterance to an underground car-park.

My brother and sister, whom had been concious the entire time got out of the car, my sister started screaming and my brother came to the passenger side window to see how I was. He saw me with my head against the dashboard, he touched me to see if I was concious and I started shaking violently.

My sister started coming over and he grabbed her saying "Don't look at him!". They were convinced I was dead. I came to, my eyesight was washed out, some fireman was shouting through the window, asking if I could move my legs. I checked, I couldn't initially, but realised I could move my toes, something was holding my legs down.

My favourite guitar, which was placed between my legs had clamped them down, the guitar destroyed in the process. The fireman got the guitar out, and I got out.

It was a circus outside, crazy. We'd crashed into an apartment block, so everyone in the apartments were out, at the time we crashed there was a passing fire-engine so all the firies were there, and funnily enough we'd crashed next to a local television station, so the media was also there. The ambulance was the last on the scene, despite arriving some 5 mins after the actual accident. And the police also came. Lots of people.

I found my brother and sister, who were shocked and crying that I was alive, I was in too much of a daze to understand completely what happened. After a quick chat with my bro the ambulance guys took me away. They shoved me in the back of the ambulance, shot me up with some stuff and I passed out. I was passed out for nearly 2 days.

During that time I undergoed several tests, some internal bleeding had occured and brain swelling, my family was informed that I may never wake up. Friends from Victoria and Canberra made the mad rush to my hospital, expecting the worst.

However I did come through, and I was not aware of the seriousness of my injuries until some months later, in part due to the fact my short term memory was gone, and would be gone for some time.

This is obviously a very long story, but that's the set up. I've been through many, many different tests with different doctors and specialists, dealing with employers, universities, lawyers and insurance companies, I've experienced all the hardships that it has on personal relationships, with your friends, family members, partners and random strangers.
